How Do I Overcome Sexual Temptation?

Someone sent me a message recently asking how he is to overcome sexual temptation. I thought of sharing my reply. (Names have been changed to protect privacy).

Hello Simon,

My name is John.

Your question was ‘What can I do to resist temptation and sexual thinking and sexual intercourse?’

I’m glad you asked that question.

You can overcome it in a simple manner.

All you mentioned in your question is what the Bible calls the lust of the flesh.

The Bible talks about the lust of the flesh in the book of Galatians 5:16:
“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”

The simple answer to your question is that you would need to walk in the Spirit!

But how do you walk in the Spirit?

The Bible calls the Holy Spirit the Spirit of Christ (Romans 8:9).

To walk in the Spirit, you simply need to first have a living daily relationship with Jesus Christ in His Word, and then ask Him to fill you with His Holy Spirit.

When you do this, the Holy Ghost would give you the strength to stand against sin successfully!

The Bible tells us that Jesus died to release power that would enable you stand in victory over sin.

Jude 1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, be glory and majesty, dominion and power. Amen.

John 3:17 For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved [from the power of sin and temptation].

All you would have to do is to confess Him as your Saviour and Lord now, and if you have not done so before, you would be brought into a new and living relationship with the Father, and He would give you His Spirit, and you would be born into a whole new life, with the Holy Spirit as your guide, and strengthener. You do not need to depend on your own strength, for it would fail you.

Say this prayer out of your mouth after me now

Father, thank You that You gave Your Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for my sins. I proclaim You to be Lord over my life and to be in command of it as from today. I give You control of my life and ask that you fill and control me with Your Holy Spirit. Please be in charge of my life every day. You will give me Your power to live a Christian life of glory, power and rest each and every day, in Jesus’ Name.

Thank you Jesus.

Now thank Him for the free gift of His Holy Spirit!!

Jesus gave us one commandment – which is to love one another. This is not erotic or sexual love, but the pure, unselfish and kind love that the Bible calls AGAPE.

But, how do we manage this?

Paul tells us that ” the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” -Romans 5:5

In other words, the way we can live in the love of God which Jesus has commanded us to live in, is by having a living, daily relationship with the Holy Spirit.

Also, the Bible tells us that “faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” – Rom 10:17.

So now, to live without sin (which is disobeying the command of Jesus to love: and not having faith); we need to have a living relationship with the Spirit of God, and we need to study the Word of God as often as possible (even everyday!)

Very importantly, focus on your relationship with the Holy Spirit of God. He will help you stop these wrong habits completely, but also know that along the way, if you make mistakes and fall, He would ALWAYS forgive you, NO MATTER how serious the sin is!

God bless you. I hope you enjoyed that. If you have any questions, please write to usersservice@thegloriousrealms.com!
